“Few parts of the school day make both teachers and students as happy as recess does! We are excited to announce that during the summer of 2020, Southeast of Saline will be renovating the elementary playground. The renovation will include dirtwork to resolve long-standing drainage issues, replace the old wooden mulch with a more sustainable playground surface of playground turf and/or rubber mulch, the removal of damaged play equipment and the repair of some equipment. The ultimate goal is to also purchase and install some new play structures that are more inclusive as well as add other outdoor activities such as blacktop games, tetherball, outdoor musical instruments and a walking path.

While funds have been allocated for a portion of this project, additional funds are needed to complete this much-needed renovation. The SES Playground Renovation Committee feels like it is so important to keep students active throughout the school day with outdoor playtime. Recess matters, especially in a world filled with an abundance of technology and screen time.
