As completion of the Weeping Water Academy Building Restoration Project nears, the Historical Society invites the public to help pave the way for preservation and leave a lasting legacy by purchasing an engraved brick to be installed near the building’s entrance. Have a brick engraved to honor a special person or group, or provide a lasting memory to a loved one.
The native limestone building was constructed in 1871 as the Congregational Church. In 1885 the Weeping Water Academy was founded and the old church provided space for the chapel, classrooms, and library until the school closed in 1914. From 1917 to 2011, the building served as the public library. After 12 years and hundreds of hours of work by many volunteers, the historical society looks forward to providing the community with a social hall, genealogy center, and new exhibits.
