My name is Keegan Wille, a Life Scout with BSA Troop 40 in Yorkville. For my Eagle Scout project, I am very excited to announce the installation of two permanent bench areas in front of the Eternal Flame in Yorkville’s Town Square Park to honor living veterans and memorialize those who have made the ultimate sacrifice for our country.
As part of this project, the community has a unique opportunity to purchase laser-engraved bricks personalized with the name and description of veterans, available to anyone not only from Yorkville and Kendall County, but people from all communities who want to support my project.
The deadline for brick orders and raising funds to support my project is by December 31, 2023 (or until 100 brick orders are reached, whichever comes first). Project completion is anticipated in the Spring of 2024 as soon as the weather is conducive for installation.
I feel strongly about remembering Veterans, as one of my mom’s cousins, Army Spc. Jared Stanker from Evergreen Park, IL, was killed in action in 2009 at the age of 22 from an Improvised Explosive Device (IED) in Afghanistan.
