The Virginia Veterans Memorials Inc. (V.V.M.) was established to recognize and preserve the memories and incidents of local citizens who served in the United States Armed Forces during the Iraq Wars by the development of a monument in their honor for future generations. We are raising funds to build a public memorial honoring those who have faithfully defended the nation during these times of conflict. Every one a volunteer, we have an obligation to honor their sacrifices. Like their Vietnam War predecessors, they received no ticker-tape parades or welcome home. The Monument Project will transform the way our country’s histories of the Iraq Wars are told in a public space and ensure that future generations inherit a commemorative landscape that venerates and reflects the vast, rich complexity of the American story of these wars with an historic storytelling space.
