The idea of a Wakefield Sports Complex has been a long time in the making. The initial planning began in 2006 and a competition track was installed in 2009. Completion of the project was interrupted because of the negative impact of the “Great Recession.” The Wakefield Board of Education has been working diligently to move the much-needed project forward for over a year now. The scope of the project will include retaining the existing track with the construction of a new athletic turf field, stadium bleachers, locker rooms, restrooms, concession facilities, and a press box.
