Pave the Way to Play is how you can help MOB build an All Abilities Park together! MOB was started in the Summer of 2017 with the mission of bringing more family-friendly amenities to the Sun City. We had very early success advocating for families at the City level, and our Facebook page has a following of 10k El Pasoans. The MOB Facebook page is an excellent resource for finding what is going on in the city, best recommendations, and general parenting help. Find us by searching: MOB – Families for El Paso. Our group and Facebook page are open to all family members – it’s not just for Moms!
MOB was Inspired by football star Drew Brees’ All Abilities Playground in New Orleans. We researched these types of playgrounds and we were surprised that the closest one to El Paso is in Rio Rancho, New Mexico, close to 300 miles away. That was our push to start working on bringing an All Abilities Playground to El Paso. We wanted the location to be centralized and quickly realized it had to be at Ascarate Park. Ascarate Park is over 400 acres and features two lakes, a golf course, a community pool, garden, and so much more.
You might be asking what an all-abilities playground is and why it is essential for our city to have one. This playground provides play equipment to address the critical challenge in providing an accessible clean, safe, and positive environment to support active, inclusive play for children living with developmental disabilities. Playground equipment addresses these five critical developmental skills of physical, social-emotional, sensory, cognitive, and communicative to support social integration and promote inclusion of children and youth living with cognitive, mental, and physical disabilities. This playground will empower families and children living with disabilities to thrive and prosper in our community. It will also be easily accessible to grandparents or parents with big strollers. Simply stated – this playground is for everyBODY! By participating in our brick fundraiser you are supporting MOB’s All Abilities Park project while getting to add a personal touch to a brick or paver that will be built into a park pathway.
